Bullfrog Eggs May Hold the Secret to Mesothelioma Survival

RiauJOS. com, Mesothelioma - Researchers in Japan believe They‘ll have discovered a brand new and much more effective drug to the intractable asbestos cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma – and it also comes from your unlikely source.

Sialic acid-binding lectin (cSBL ) is really a protein derived coming from the eggs of bullfrogs. It‘s a chance to bind to cell membranes and appears to exhibit antitumor activity with the degradation of RNA. Previous studies have shown cSBL to become associated with a number of important biological processes.

A New Type of Mesothelioma Treatment?

Inside a new report published inside the open-access on-line medical journal PLoS One, researchers coming from the Tohoku Medical and Pharmaceutical University in Sendai, Japan say cSBL has got the potential to extend mesothelioma survival.

The tim first tested the protein in test tubes to research exactly how it appears to trigger apoptosis (cell death ) in pleural mesothelioma cells.

Following the effectiveness of cSBL were confirmed on isolated cells, the researchers tested it on mice that were inoculated with one among two different tipes of human mesothelioma cells.

Many of the mice were treated with cSBL. Others were treated using the standar mesothelioma drug, pemetrexed (Alimta ). A third number of mice received both drugs simultaneously.

PAUL SURVIVED MESOTHELIOMA

Paul Kraus has survived mesothelioma for almost 20 years. He wrote a book about how he made it happen, now He‘s giving them away at no cost.

Influence on Mesothelioma Cells is Significant

“The administration of cSBL significantly inhibited tumor growth by 50 percent xenograft mouse jeniss, with no adverse effects, ” reports principal investigator Takeo Tatsuta.

The researchers also discovered that, when cSBL was combined with pemetrexed, it experienced a synergistic effect on mesothelioma tumors which was a much more powerful compared to the standar mesothelioma treatment mixture of pemetrexed and cisplatin.

Dr. Tatsuta means that this synergistic effect might momentually enable doctors to make use of less pemetrexed, reducing many of the most serious side associated with mesothelioma treatment.

“These results suggest that cSBL has potential like a novel drug for the therapy of malignant mesothelioma, ” concludes the report.

Other Unusual Causes of New Mesothelioma Drugs

In recent years, mesothelioma researchers worldwide, desperate to get yourself a cure to the asbestos cancer, have experimented with numerous unusual sources for new drugs.

Last year, Dr. Tatsuta and his tim found that polysulfur aromatic alkaloids coming from the Pacific sea squirt also induced apoptosis in pleural mesothelioma cells by reactivating a cell death signaling pathway that‘s often turned off in cancer cells.

And in May, researchers in Cameroon identified two tipes of African plants that appear to possess potential as new mesothelioma treatments. The plants, including Elephantopus mollis, Kalanchoe crenata, and 4 other medicinal plants, contain compounds that triggered cell death when tested on mesothelioma cells inside the laboratory.
